Privacy policy

This notice describes how the personal data of visitors to the 3D Cave Viewer website is processed, under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the “GDPR”) and Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003 as amended. This site is the presentation page for the 3D Cave Viewer open source project; the actual exploration application is hosted on a separate domain with its own notice.

Data controller

The data controller is Davide Brugnoni (Buio Verticale - Gruppo Speleologico CAI Gubbio).

What data we collect

Browsing data. Like any website, the systems that serve these pages record some technical data automatically transmitted by your browser (for example IP address, device and browser type, date and time of the request, page requested). This data is used only to serve the site, keep it secure and diagnose any malfunctions.

Data you give us through the contact form. If you fill in the “Get in touch” form, you share your name, email address, optionally the caving group you belong to, and the text of your message. We use it only to reply to you.

Anonymous usage statistics. With your consent, we collect aggregated, anonymous visit counts (pages viewed, referrer, device type) through a tool that uses no cookies and does not identify you. You can decline or withdraw this consent at any time from the banner or the cookie preferences.

  • Running and securing the site (browsing data): the controller’s legitimate interest in providing a working, secure site - GDPR art. 6.1.f.
  • Replying to your requests (contact form): performance of pre-contractual measures and/or consent - GDPR art. 6.1.b and 6.1.a. Providing this data is optional, but without it we won’t be able to reply to you.
  • Anonymous statistics: consent - GDPR art. 6.1.a.

Tools and recipients of the data

To run the site we rely on a few external providers, who process the data as processors and only for the purposes listed above:

  • Vercel Inc. - site hosting and, with your consent, anonymous, cookie-free usage statistics and performance metrics (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights).
  • Web3Forms - service that forwards messages sent through the contact form to the controller.
  • Google Ireland Ltd. - provides the web fonts (Google Fonts). To display the typefaces, your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address. Google does not set cookies for this purpose.

We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Transfers outside the European Union

Some of the providers above are based in, or have infrastructure in, the United States. Any transfers take place in compliance with the GDPR, based on adequacy decisions (EU-US Data Privacy Framework) and/or standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

How long we keep the data

  • Contact form messages: for as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up, and in any case no longer than 24 months, unless the law requires otherwise.
  • Technical logs: for as long as strictly necessary for security and diagnostics.
  • Anonymous statistics: aggregated data that cannot be traced back to you.

Your rights

At any time you can exercise the rights set out in GDPR arts. 15-22: access to your data, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection to processing, portability and withdrawal of consent (without affecting processing already carried out). If you believe the processing breaches the regulation, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority: for this controller, the Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it), or with the supervisory authority of your own EU member state.
